Puyvert is a tranquil and pretty
village, its main street lined with houses dating from the
16th century. Excellent restaurants, shops, cafés,
a bank, postoffice, doctor's office and pharmacy may be found
within walking distance (about 20 minutes) or a short drive
to Lourmarin, a historic and beautiful Vaucluse village.
Puyvert lies at the foot of the Luberon hills
in rolling countryside of vineyards and orchards. Other beautiful
hillside villages of the Luberon - Bonnieux, Menerbes, Lacoste
and Oppede among them - are within a 30 minute drive. Puyvert
is 35 kilometres north of Aix en Provence and about 40 kilometres
east of Avignon - two famous historic cities. Other towns
within easy reach are Nimes and Arles. The Cote d'Azur is
about an hour and a half by car, and St. Tropez, Cannes and
Nice can be visited within a day. Another fascinating day-trip
is to the Camargue, a unique marsh and seaside wildlife reserve;
the home of wild horses, cattle and thousands of water birds.
